Private Dictation for Your Mac
Hold fn, speak and let go. Live Transcribe types what you meant at your cursor, in almost any app — the “um”s gone, the punctuation fixed, and “Monday, no wait, Tuesday” written as “Tuesday”. Speech recognition and cleanup run entirely on your Mac, so what you say never leaves it.
Free and open source (MIT) · Apple silicon · macOS 14 or later · 31 languages · Signed and notarized · Updates itself
Hold fn or a shortcut of your own, or double-tap it for hands-free. Text lands at your cursor — in messages, email, documents, browsers and terminals.
Fillers disappear, spoken self-corrections are resolved, and spoken lists and letters are laid out for you.
Speech-to-text and a small language model run locally on Apple silicon with MLX. No account, no cloud and no telemetry.
Watch your words appear as you speak, with each line cleaned in place and every session saved.
Sinhala comes out in Sinhala script with English words in English letters: “meeting එක cancel කරන්න”. Cleanup is written for English.
Add names and jargon to your vocabulary once, and they are spelled the way you spell them from then on.
Say a trigger phrase like “my calendar link” and your saved text is inserted in its place.
Four cleanup levels — None, Light, Medium and High — and ⌃⌥Z puts your own words back.
Every edit is checked. If the model drops a “not” or rewrites too much, your own words are typed instead.
Text goes in through Accessibility and is read back, or is pasted with your clipboard put back — so terminals, browsers and Electron apps work too.
MIT licensed, with more than 1,000 tests, a bench for your own recordings and a tool that retrains its cleanup adapter on your Mac.
